2010 has been a power packed year thus far for the Los Angeles based Jerk Crew, Kream Kidz. They were recently featured in VOGUE HOMMES Japan, photographed by Hedi Slimane, and now the LA Times’ full page article, written by Sophia Kercher. The story was featured in last Sunday’s LA Times Image Section and if you want to check in out online go to www.latimes.com and search “Kream Kidz Jerk Movement”. In my opinion, this is the best article written about Jerkin since Guy Trebay put The Movement on the cover of the New York Times’ Fashion Section. And, we could never forget about the excellent work of Eric Ducker, the first to cover Jerkin on the West Coast, and Jeff Weiss of the LA Weekly who did an amazing job contextualizing the diversity in The Movement as it related to geographical locations across Greater Los Angeles. Sophia’s article, in my opinion, captures the essence of the social impact The Skinny Jeanz/Jerk Movement has had on the younger generations who are deciding what path to follow in life (gangsta rap vs. Skinny Jeanz/Jerkin culture). Kiyoko Essley, mother of Ben J of “New Boyz”, is quoted in Kercher’s article as saying, "You know the thug life and being a thug, it's not as big as being a businessman and an entrepreneur, and being smart is what's popular now."
