How and Where did The Skinny Jeanz/Jerk Movement Began By, Shariff Hasan

The Jerkin Movement started as an online collaborative viral video culture that began in late 2008 in Los Angeles, California by teenagers attending performing arts schools of various cultural and economic communities across Los Angeles ranging from Westwood to Watts. The Jerkin Movement coalesced when the New Boyz (signed by Warner Brothers/Asylum), participants of the viral video culture, produced the hit radio song, “You’re A Jerk”, signifying one of the dance steps popularized by teenage viral video culture. Due to the popularity of the New Boyz’s “You’re A Jerk”, this local viral video culture assumed the identity of The Jerkin Movement.

Warner Bros./Asylum Records' President, Todd Moscowitz, was the first industry executive to see the global potential of the Skinny Jeanz/Jerk Movement in signing the New Boyz, Cold Flamez, The Rej3ctz and several other top acts from the online movement.
